LINCOLN, R.I. (AP) — State police say two people died in separate accidents on Route 146 in Lincoln and North Providence, including an 89-year-old woman who was driving the wrong way on the highway.
Troopers say the elderly woman's car crashed head-on into a pickup truck in Lincoln shortly before 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The woman died at the scene. Another person is hospitalized in stable condition, and at least two other vehicles were damaged.
The woman's name hasn't been released.
Three hours before the accident, troopers say a man died after being struck by a tractor-trailer on Route 146 in North Providence after stepping into the right travel lane. Police say the man had parked his vehicle in the breakdown lane.
Authorities haven't identified the man.
The causes of the accidents are under investigation.
