PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Police are investigating vandalism at a Cranston cemetery after 25 headstones were pushed over during the Labor Day weekend.

A spokesman for the Cranston Police Department told The Providence Journal the damage at Pocasset Cemetery was done sometime between Friday, when cemetery caretakers left work, and Tuesday, when they returned.

The damage is estimated at about $6,500. A spokesman called the incident random.

Police have no suspects. They plan to step up patrols of the cemetery.

The paper said there have been minor incidents of vandalism at the cemetery in the past.
