PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Gasoline prices in Rhode Island held steady from last week, and are about the same as the national average.

The latest price survey released Monday by AAA Southern New England found the average cost of a gallon of self-serve regular in the state is $3.59.

Local prices are two cents more than a month ago. The current price in Rhode Island is just a penny higher than the national per-gallon average of $3.58.

Rhode Islanders were paying 9 cents more, or $3.68 a gallon, a year ago at this time.

The AAA survey found a 21-cent range in prices, from a low of $3.49 to a high of $3.70.
