PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ Federal, state and Providence officials plan to make an announcement about an investigation into programs for the disabled that the U.S. Department of Justice says violated their rights.
The Justice Department says people with intellectual and developmental disabilities were unnecessarily segregated at a city school and at a state-licensed employment program where they worked for long hours at low wages.
Officials including the Providence school superintendent and head of the state's Department of Behavioral Healthcare, Developmental Disabilities and Hospitals are scheduled to speak at a Thursday news conference at the U.S. Attorney's office in Providence.
The Department of Justice did not release further details about the announcement.
