The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority says it will temporarily move all buses out of the plaza starting Saturday to make way for renovations that are supposed to make the area friendlier to pedestrians. A security officer at the federal courthouse on Kennedy Plaza was run over and killed by a RIPTA bus in May while in a crosswalk.
The work is expected to last until the fall.
In the meantime, RIPTA buses will pick up riders on surrounding streets.
Tickets may still be purchased at the Kennedy Plaza bus terminal. Peter Pan and Greyhound buses will still pick up and drop off passengers on Kennedy Plaza.
