PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Gov. Lincoln Chafee has selected chairmen for two new councils of the Rhode Island Board of Education.
The Democrat said Friday he appointed Patrick Guida to head the elementary and secondary education council and Michael Bernstein to head the post-secondary education council.
Guida has been the full board's vice chairman since 2013. He previously served as vice chairman of the Board of Regents for Elementary and Secondary Education. He has served 18 years on the Barrington school committee.
Bernstein has been on the full board since last year. He also serves on the board of the Rhode Island Student Assistance Program.
The General Assembly in 2011 merged the state's two education boards into one. It then this year created two councils of the board as part of the governance structure.
