Cumberland Team Prepares for 1st World Series Game

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A team from Cumberland is preparing for its first game of the 2014 Little League World Series, after an early elimination from the tournament three years ago.

Cumberland American plays its first game Friday night against Texas. The Rhode Island team had practices Thursday and took part in the opening ceremony in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

The team won the New England championship and a berth in the World Series by defeating a team from Fairfield, Connecticut, last week.

Cumberland American went to the World Series in 2011 but came up short. Manager Dave Belisle tells WJAR-TV this year's team can compete with anyone. He says he thinks the squad was in awe and a little intimidated last time and that he's working to get them better prepared mentally now.
