NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — Newport police say a man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver.

The Providence Journal reports that police say the unidentified man was apparently stumbling along the side of a road when he may have fallen into the path of a car Saturday night.

The motorist left the scene, but turned herself in to police early Sunday morning.

Police said they arrested 33-year-old Jessica Gosdoski of Oceanside, N.Y., on charges of leaving the scene resulting in death. She was arraigned and released and is due in court Sept. 11.

It was not known Sunday if she's represented by a lawyer and her home phone number is not listed.

Police are trying to identify the victim and notify his family.
