GROTON, Conn. (AP) — The president of Electric Boat says the company's business outlook is strong despite an expected decline in U.S. defense spending because of strong support for the roles played by submarines in American military strategy.
President Jeffrey Geiger says an increased focus on the Pacific region means greater reliance on the U.S. Navy and military continues to have more demands for attack submarines than the fleet can meet.
Geiger spoke about issues facing the Groton-based company at a meeting Tuesday with Connecticut officials. He plans a meeting with Rhode Island officials in the afternoon.
Electric Boat, a division of General Dynamics, employs about 12,000 people. Geiger said employment is expected to remain steady before ramping up later in the decade for work on a new class of ballistic-missile submarines.
