PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence says it has raised enough money to keep the state's only emergency homeless shelter open through the summer.
The diocese had planned to close The Emmanuel House in Providence next Wednesday.
Bishop Thomas Tobin announced Thursday the shelter would remain open, thanks to funds raised at the diocese Lumen Gentium Awards dinner.
Jim Jahnz, the diocese's emergency services coordinator tells The Providence Journal  the 35-bed shelter has been running well over capacity every night.
