JOHNSTON, R.I. (AP) — A fire has destroyed a building at a trash transfer station in Johnston.

It happened early Wednesday morning. Joseph Vinagro, manager of Patriot Disposal, tells WJAR-TV he saw flames around 2:45 a.m. at one of the company's buildings.

By the time firefighters got there, the fire had spread through the building.

The building is used to sort waste that is picked up at Johnston residents' homes.

The fire marshal is investigating.
