PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — New statistics show that Rhode Island job growth in the fourth quarter of 2013 was better than originally estimated.

The state Department of Labor and Training said Thursday there were 2,100 more jobs in December than initially reported. The new figure brings the total for the month to 473,300.

It also bumps up the over-the-year job gain to 5,200.

The new numbers are based on a review of employers' tax data and are considered more accurate than the earlier data, which comes from a monthly survey of 1,700 businesses.

The sectors with the largest upward revisions were professional and business services, which had 600 more jobs, and information, which had 400 more.

Rhode Island's February unemployment rate was 9 percent.
