PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — New documents obtained by The Associated Press show former House Speaker Gordon Fox had a personal loan from a registered lobbyist for several years.
Ethics Commission filings by Fox this week show the loan of an undisclosed amount over $1,000 was from Ray Rickman.
Rickman tells the AP he loaned the money in 2009, when Fox was House majority leader. The filings say Fox still owed him the money in 2013. Rickman was a lobbyist for all those years except 2010.
Rickman would not say what the loan was for or say the amount. He says Fox has been a longtime friend.
Fox and his lawyers did not immediately return messages seeking comment.
The FBI and IRS raided Fox's home and Statehouse office in March, prompting his resignation as speaker. They haven't said what they're investigating.
