PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Gov. Lincoln Chafee says Rhode Island will be "in good shape" despite a change in legislative leadership following law enforcement raids of former House Speaker Gordon Fox's home and office.
The Democratic governor said Monday that he's been briefed on the investigation related to the raids, but declined to comment and referred all questions to federal authorities.
Fox has resigned his leadership position and the House is expected to pick a new Speaker Tuesday. Chafee says he looks forward to working with whoever succeeds Fox, and says he's confident state leaders can remain focused on their work.
State and federal law enforcement raided Fox's office and Providence home on Friday. Authorities will not comment on whom or what they are investigating.
