PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Supporters of action to combat climate change held rally at the Rhode Island Statehouse.
Organizers say the Saturday afternoon event was to call attention to the urgency and importance of readying for the effects of climate change, which are expected to include rising sea levels and stronger storms.
A bill sponsored by House Environment and Natural Resources Committee Arthur Handy calls for the state to take steps to prepare for and mitigate climate change. It also sets targets for lowering greenhouse gas emissions.
The rally was organized by the Sierra Club, the Environmental Justice League of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Student Climate Coalition.
