EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A teenager has been arrested in connection with the theft of a gun from the home of an East Providence police officer.

WPRI-TV reports that the gun was taken on Friday and was still missing as of Monday afternoon. The station says it's not clear whether it is the officer's service weapon or a gun the officer keeps at home for personal use.

East Providence Police Chief Joseph Tavares tells the station on Monday that the parents brought the teenager to police headquarters.

The station reports that Cranston Police searched a home in that city with a State Police dog and were unable to find the weapon.
