PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Liberians in Rhode Island are collecting medical supplies and planning a rally to highlight the Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

The University of Rhode Island says students and alumni from Liberia plan to hold a rally at the Statehouse on Thursday to publicize the need for international help.

Rhode Island is home to an estimated 15,000 Liberians.

Members of the Liberian community are also collecting supplies to send overseas, including Clorox wipes, latex gloves and masks. Donations are being accepted at three places in Providence: Decontee's African Restaurant, Jerry's Salon and Christ Center for Priests.

Ebola has killed nearly 900 people this year in Liberia and three other countries in West Africa.
