PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Providence man has been charged in connection with a fight in the Federal Hill section that left another man with critical injuries.
Police say Daniel Lastarza beat 34-year-old Jonathan Stack with a two-by-four during the incident on Wednesday night behind the Amici Sports Bar and Grill. Stack was hospitalized with head injuries.
The 48-year-old Lastarza was charged on Friday with two felony assault counts in Providence District Court. He was ordered held without bail in connection with a previous probation violation. It was not immediately known if he had an attorney.
Police said after the incident that they believed it occurred when Stack tried to get his money back in a $400 junk car deal gone wrong.
