PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Two men have been ordered held without bond on murder charges in the fatal beating of a convicted sex offender.

The Providence Journal reports 22-year-old Thomas Rose of East Providence and 20-year-old Jared Jackson of Pawtucket appeared in District Court on Monday. They did not enter pleas.

A third man, 31-year-old David Durrett, was arraigned on charges he stole $13 and a cell phone from the dying man. He is being held on $25,000 bond.

Sixty-eight-year-old Milton Lyles was found beaten on Broad Street on May 19 and died at Rhode Island Hospital on June 13.

Lyles lived near the crime scene. Police and court records show he was a registered sex offender with criminal records in Rhode Island and Massachusetts.
