PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — State officials say mosquitoes tested for both West Nile virus and eastern equine encephalitis show no sign of either disease.
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management said Monday that all 104 mosquito samples from 21 traps set statewide during the week of June 16 came back negative.
Test results are pending at the state health department laboratory for samples collected from traps set last week.
No mosquito-borne illnesses have been detected in the state yet this year.
State officials are also reminding residents to avoid mosquito bites by using repellent, installing screens and eliminating breeding grounds like standing water in buckets or old tires.
