PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The mother of former House Speaker Gordon Fox, who lived with him until recently, has died at the age of 92.
House spokesman Larry Berman says Mary Fox died early Friday morning. She had been ill for many months.
Mary Fox lived with the former speaker and his husband at their East Side home in Providence until she recently moved to a nursing home.
The Democrat resigned his leadership post in March a day after federal and state authorities raided his Statehouse office and home as part of a criminal investigation. Neither Fox nor authorities have commented on the substance of the investigation.
He is not running for re-election.
A message was left Friday with Fox.
