PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A group of retired state workers and teachers covered under the proposed deal to end the legal wrangling over Rhode Island's pension overhaul have filed a new suit challenging the law and objecting to their inclusion in any class-action settlement.

The suit filed Thursday says a class cannot "fairly and adequately" protect all retirees' interests and calls the pension changes a breach of contract.

A proposed settlement was announced in February to resolve legal challenges filed by public-sector unions and retirees. The deal rolls back some of the law's changes and gives retirees modest pension increases.

Spokespeople for the governor and state treasurer said they had no comment on the suit. They called the proposed settlement in the interest of all parties and said they'd continue working toward its approval.
