PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — An ice skating team based in Pawtucket has captured its third consecutive national title in ice theater.
The group, made up of young women between 8 and 18 years old, was among 16 teams from across the country competing for the title in the ice theater Open Division last month in Dearborn, Michigan.
Coach Sarah Mirza-DiNardo tells the Times of Pawtucket the girls performed a tribute to John Lennon in the short program and skated out scenes from Mary Poppins in the long program.
Judges scored the teams on precision, acting ability and presentation.
This is the fourth national title in five years for the group, which includes skaters from throughout Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts.
