SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) — The principal of a Catholic high school has apologized for bringing in a speaker whose opinions on divorce and homosexuality offended students, parents and faculty.
Principal David J. Carradini of Prout School says he invited the Rev. Rocky Hoffman to speak on April 4. Carradini says Hoffman's mix of personal opinion and church teaching caused offense.
Hoffman is a host at Relevant Radio, a Catholic radio network.
The Providence Journal reported that several people called on Carradini to resign. He said in a letter to parents that resigning is not in the best interests of the Prout School, a high school run by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence.
The diocese called the matter "deeply regrettable."
A message on Sunday for Hoffman at Relevant Radio in Green Bay, Wis., was not immediately returned.
