PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A 26-year-old Providence man has been ordered detained on federal drug and firearm charges after he allegedly sold heroin to an undercover city detective.

The U.S. attorney's office said Tuesday a federal magistrate judge last week ordered Darren Monteiro held. He has been charged with four counts of heroin distribution and one count each of possession with the intent to distribute heroin, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime of violence.

Prosecutors say Monteiro sold packets of heroin for $40 each four times this month to an undercover Providence detective and arranged to purchase a firearm and ammunition he allegedly intended to use to commit an armed robbery.

It wasn't immediately clear if he has a lawyer.
