Providence officer who shot man placed on leave

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A nine-year veteran of the Providence police force has been placed on paid administrative leave after shooting and injuring a man while responding to a domestic disturbance.

Ryan Moroney shot 23-year-old Dari Garcia at a home in the city's Silver Lake area on Monday night. Garcia suffered a non-life threatening injury and was being treated at Rhode Island Hospital.

Providence police Maj. David Lapatin did not disclose details of the incident, including where in the body Garcia was shot. He said an investigation by Providence police, state police and the attorney general's office is ongoing. That is routine procedure for all officer-involved shootings.

Lapatin said the shooting occurred as police were called to the address on a domestic disturbance call.
