Regulators Issue Denial of Boston's Host Status

BOSTON (AP) — State gambling regulators have released their final written decision denying Boston the right to put casino proposals in neighboring Revere and Everett before voters.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission unanimously approved the 11-page decision at a meeting Thursday.

Acting Commission Chairman James McHugh said the decision spells out why the commission voted last week to deny Boston's request to be named a "host community" for Wynn's proposal in Everett and Mohegan Sun's project in Revere.

The commission also voted Thursday to officially name Boston a "surrounding community" for the casino plans, setting in motion a timeline for when the casinos must negotiate financial compensation agreements with the city.

Anti-casino activists earlier Thursday called on the state Inspector General and Secretary of the Commonwealth to investigate the Boston-area casino license process.
