WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — The owners of the former Rhode Island Mall in Warwick are hoping to open the state's first factory outlet mall.
According to media reports, Winstanley Enterprises and Surrey Equities have plans to redevelop the shopping center into 160,000 square feet of factory outlet space. Ed Silvera, president of Surrey Equities, said Wednesday he expects the mall will house between 40 and 60 outlets.
He says pre-leases are already being negotiated with retailers and that he expects to release a list of stores by the end of the year.
The goal is to begin construction by the end of the first quarter of 2015 and open the outlet mall by the holiday shopping season.
The owners' original plan was to convert the property into several big box stores.
