PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Gov. Lincoln Chafee, Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts and state National Guard Brig. Gen. Charles E. Petrarca Jr. mark the observance of Memorial Day by participating in an annual wreath-laying ceremony honoring war veterans from Rhode Island.

The event will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Garden of Heroes at the State House.

The garden is dedicated to Rhode Island service members who died supporting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The ceremony will be a silent tribute.
