PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Rhode Island State Police are launching a drive to find new recruits for next year's training academy.
The department says it's accepting applications through May 31 for the academy, which is tentatively scheduled for September 2015.
Capt. Ernest Quarry says they are looking for around 40 candidates. They received more than 1,600 applications for the 2013 class.
Quarry says those who apply will have to complete a written exam and physical fitness test, among other requirements. He calls it a "stringent and extensive recruitment process."
He says it takes a year to 14 months to select the candidates for the training academy class.
