PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — State Attorney General Peter Kilmartin says a Barrington police sergeant has been sentenced to probation and resigned from his job after pleading guilty to cyberstalking his ex-wife and obstructing justice.

Forty-seven-year-old Joseph Andreozzi of Pawtucket entered the pleas Wednesday in Providence Superior Court. Judge Susan McGuirl ordered him to undergo domestic violence counseling and have no contact with his ex-wife.

Authorities say Andreozzi sent his ex-wife harassing text messages and used a computer program to delete the messages from his cell phone after it was seized by police.

Andreozzi's guilty pleas came as he was facing a new trial in the case. A jury convicted him of similar charges last year, but a retrial was ordered.
