PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Glocester man who punched a partygoer so hard it killed him has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

A Superior Court judge in Providence sentenced 25-year-old Nicolas Lasorsa on Wednesday for the killing of 20-year-old Ronald Kopka Jr. Lasorsa pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in March.

Police say Lasorsa and Kopka were at a party in Glocester celebrating the return of a soldier from Afghanistan in July 2012. Witnesses said Kopka was being escorted out of the party after becoming intoxicated and upset when Lasorsa punched him in the head.

Authorities say the punch was so hard it severed an artery in Kopka's head. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
