RI man must repay $12K for unemployment fraud

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A North Kingstown man has been ordered to pay back nearly $12,000 in unemployment benefits he received while he was working full-time.

Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Kilmartin announced Wednesday that 46-year-old Patrick Carroll pleaded no contest this week to one count of obtaining money under false pretenses.

He was sentenced to five years of probation and ordered to pay full restitution to the state totaling $11,901.

Prosecutors say Carroll failed to report his weekly earnings to the state labor department between July 2006 and December 2011 while he was employed full time in Providence.

A telephone number for Carroll couldn't immediately be found.
