PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island man is to be sentenced for murder in connection with the shooting death of a woman in 2011.

A jury found 33-year-old Leron Porter guilty in December of one count of second-degree murder for killing 17-year-old Tiphany Tallo. He's set to be sentenced in Superior Court on Thursday.

Prosecutors say Porter and several relatives confronted Tallo's sister after she had an argument with Porter's sister. Authorities say Porter shot and killed Tallo when she tried to help her sister.

Porter's mother was sentenced to a year in prison for her role in the fight, which left Tallo's sister and mother injured. Porter's sisters Breona and Jaelynn received 18-month prison terms.

Porter had been released just days earlier after serving time for a federal firearms violation.
