PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island's top public education official is set to address the General Assembly.

Education Commissioner Deborah Gist will deliver her annual state of education remarks to a rare joint gathering of the Senate and House Thursday evening at the Statehouse.

The address typically lays out the commissioner's priorities for public schools and outlines the challenges facing the state's public education system.

The speech comes a day before Gist releases the state's latest graduation rates and the results from last fall's student assessment tests.
