PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Rhode Island Statehouse is staying open late this weekend so residents can check out its holiday decorations.

The Statehouse will close to the public at 9 p.m. Friday and open again from 4 to 9 p.m. on Saturday to coincide with a Christmas WaterFire lighting on those days.

A Jewish menorah and several Christmas trees including a 17-foot blue spruce are now displayed in the Statehouse.

Gov. Lincoln Chafee says the extended hours will allow more visitors and Rhode Islanders alike to enjoy "one of the jewels" of the state.
