MIDDLETOWN, R.I. (AP) — A Rhode Island woman is planning to return to the Boston Marathon, a year after losing her lower left leg in the bombing at the race.
Heather Abbott talked about her plans Tuesday during a visit to Olympic Physical Therapy in Middletown.
The 39-year-old Newport resident says she and her friends will attend this year's Boston Marathon on April 21. She's asking the Boston Athletic Association if she can run the final part of the race.
Abbott got her first prosthetic leg last June. She also has a high-heeled prosthetic and prosthetics for running and going in the ocean.
She and her friends have been raising money for her prosthetics and medical bills. They've collected $190,000 of her $500,000 goal so far.
