NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I._ Health officials have reopened the town beach in North Kingstown to swimming and closed Sandy Point Beach in Portsmouth following water quality tests.
The Health Department announced Wednesday that Sandy Point Beach was closed to swimming after high bacterial counts were found there.

Oakland Beach in Warwick remains closed to swimmers.
Health officials will recommend the beaches be reopened to swimming when water quality tests show bacteria levels have returned to normal.
The health department routinely monitors water quality at the state's public beaches throughout the summer months.
