NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — North Providence police have arrested a second person in connection with a home invasion that killed a man and wounded his mother earlier this month.
Eighteen-year-old Viclei Hernandez of Providence was charged Tuesday with first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and several other crimes.
Police say Hernandez and 24-year-old Dari Garcia of Providence are charged in the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Richard Catalano and the wounding of his mother during a home invasion Aug. 17. His mother is recovering from gunshot injuries to her jaw and shoulder.
Catalano's girlfriend told WJAR-TV that she believed Catalano's expensive sneaker collection was what sparked the home invasion.
Hernandez is detained without bail. It's not clear if he has a lawyer.
Garcia was arrested on similar charges.
