 Serve Rhode Island Volunteers Spruced up 5 Schools

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Serve Rhode Island says a record number of volunteers spent thousands of hours this summer on projects to make improvements at schools.

The organization said 561 volunteers put in 2,733 hours at the schools. They include Slater Middle School, Goff Middle School and Baldwin Elementary School in Pawtucket and West Broadway and Roger Williams middle schools in Providence.

The projects included painting classrooms and murals, doing landscaping of the grounds and building recycling bins and planters.

The value of the labor, plus donated materials, was more than $90,000.

Companies that had volunteer teams included Hasbro, Fidelity Investments, Collette Vacations and Citizens Bank.
