PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — State health officials say the water is safe again for swimming at three beaches in Middletown and one in Newport.
The Rhode Island Department of Health said Wednesday it recommends reopening Atlantic Beach Club, Peabody's Beach and Third Beach, all in Middletown, as well as Easton's Beach in Newport.
The department said water tests showed bacteria levels have returned to within normal limits.
The town beach in Warren remains closed, also because of elevated bacteria counts. Health officials will recommend reopening it to swimmers once tests indicate it is safe.
