PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island health officials are recommending the closure to swimming of two beaches in Middletown and one in Warwick.
The state Department of Health said Thursday that high bacteria counts were found in the water at Middletown's Atlantic Beach Club and Sachuest Beach, and at Oakland Beach in Warwick.
Once bacteria returns to normal levels, the beaches will be reopened.
The health department monitors water quality throughout the summer months to make sure the water is safe. Water testing is done by a department lab or one certified by the state.
