Tiverton Doubles Beach Fees for Non-Residents

TIVERTON, R.I. (AP) — The town of Tiverton has doubled the parking fees for non-residents at its two beaches.

The Newport Daily News reports the Town Council voted Monday to raise the parking fees to $10 on weekdays and $20 on weekends at both Grinnell's Beach and Fogland Beach beginning July 1. There is no fee for residents to park at the beaches.

Camper parking will go from $15 to $25 on weekdays, and from $25 to $35 on the weekend.

Councilmembers say the fee hikes will help pay for beach maintenance and trash removal.

Councilman Brett Pelletier told the council he recently walked Grinnell's Beach and found it filled with trash. He says just two of the 20 cars in the beach parking lot had Rhode Island plates.
