SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) _ The University of Rhode Island has named a new assistant vice president for student affairs and dean of students.
The school announced the appointment of Mary Jo Gonzales on Monday. She assumed her new role last month. Gonzales had served as associate dean of students and director of the Academic Success Center at Iowa State University.
She was responsible at Iowa State for multicultural student affairs, student disability services, a writing and media center and a student exchange program, among other things.
URI Vice President of Student Affairs Thomas Dougan says everyone at URI was impressed with her enthusiasm and dedication to students.
Gonzales replaced Jason Pina, who left URI to become vice president for student affairs at Bridgewater State University.
