PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) — Members of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee are traveling to Rhode Island for a field hearing that will focus on ways to reform the juvenile justice system.

Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse will chair the hearing set for Monday morning in Pawtucket.

The hearing will include testimony from representatives of the U.S. Department of Justice, Rhode Island Family Court, Rhode Island Kids Count and Tides Family Services, a nonprofit agency that addresses the needs of kids most at risk of falling out with the law.

The hearing will focus on reforming federal policies to ensure proper treatment for youth in the criminal justice system and help previous offenders to remain out of trouble.
