PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The Rhode Island health department has recommended the closure to swimmers of one beach and the reopening of another.

State health officials said Tuesday the recommend the closure of Conimicut Point Beach in Warwick to swimming because of high bacteria counts in the water.

Meanwhile, officials recommended the re-opening of King Park Beach in Newport to swimming. Tests of water samples showed bacteria levels are once again within acceptable limits.

Testing is done by the health department's laboratory or one certified by the state.

The department monitors water quality throughout the summer months to ensure safe conditions.
