SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) _ U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse and several local executives are heading to the University of Rhode Island to learn about how high-tech engineering is transforming marine industries.


The Rhode Island Democrat and leaders from several marine industry and engineering firms plan to tour URI laboratories on Monday and meet with researchers studying lightweight structures and marine composites.


The event is sponsored by the URI Business Engagement Center and Whitehouse's office.
