WARWICK, R.I. (AP) _ A woman accused of taking $8,000 from a Coventry Boy Scout troop has appeared in court and been released on personal recognizance.
WJAR-TV reports that Katherine Valenti had no comment after her appearance in District Court in Warwick on Thursday.
The 54-year-old West Warwick resident was treasurer of Coventry Boy Scout Troop 1.
She was charged with nine counts of embezzlement after police say another leader in the troop noticed the troop's account balance was unusually low and discovered that Valenti had written nine checks to herself.
