PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A Providence woman has been sentenced to 15 months in prison after being convicted of child neglect in the death of her five-week-old daughter.

Attorney General Peter Kilmartin announced the sentence for 24-year-old Mayra Gonzalez, who was convicted Monday before a single family court associate justice.

Gonzalez's daughter, Kristina, was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital in June 2012 with multiple skull fractures, broken bones, brain swelling and a lacerated liver. She was taken off life support three weeks later.

The girl's father, Christopher Jimenez, is charged with her murder. His trial is pending.

Kilmartin says Gonzalez was "too blinded" by her love for Jimenez to stop him from abusing her daughter.
