Trump Honors Vietnam Vet With Medal Of Honor

A Vietnam War veteran has been honored with the nation's highest military award. In a White House ceremony yesterday, President Trump presented the Medal of Honor to former Army Captain Gary Michael Rose. The 69-year-old California native lives in Huntsville, Alabama.

Rose – who goes by ‘Mike’ to his contemporaries – was a 22-year-old medic when he ran through a hail of gunfire to help more than 50 soldiers who were fighting the North Vietnamese Army in Laos. Rose was also wounded himself before the unit was rescued.

“Mike, your will to endure, your love for your fellow soldier, your devotion to your country inspires us all,” Trump noted during the ceremony. “I have to tell you, that is something. Nations are formed out of the strength and patriotism that lives in the hearts of our heroes.”
